Cancer villages

China’s economic boom has created many environmental and health challenges, including so-called cancer villages, an expression used by Chinese media. This one was documented in 2013 was the result of the “grow (pollute) first, clean up later” approach of Chinese leadership. In Zheng Zhuang village, Hebei province, people were indeed exposed to chemical pollution from local cellulose factory and all the trash poured from the nearest city. Between 2013 and 2015, local government and central government implemented a strategy designed by Chinese and foreign scientists which made PM 2.5 air pollution drop by 28.70%.
