Cavendish bananas are vanishing from historical producing countries like Philippines or China, because of an indestructible fungus: fusarium Tropical race 4. Chinese producers have been leaving Yunnan province en masse and moving to nearby Laos to keep up with Chinese consumers demand for this popular fruit. However, the fungus keeps spreading… Fortunately, a non-genetically modified and resistant Cavendish is now being experimented in labs of Wageningen university, Netherlands.
